Something where neither drawn or real people are in the picture.
I either never agree with how the characters are depicted if they appear on the cover or I get kind of influenced by the looks on the cover and then it once again turns out that actually, the characters don't look even close to what they appear like on the cover. And that's annoying.

I really love embossing on book covers. And I like it if the covers are pretty neutral, with pictures that are simplistic (and symbolic in relation to the book's content). Or patterned. I love the Penguin clothbound classics so much.

Something I really hate is when they take an old, moderately well known painting and colour parts of it differently or mess with it in some ugly way.
