It probably helps that, to be fair, many (East) Asians are fairly thin and many people, especially the celebrities, don't have a lot of curve to their bodies, men and women alike. So the body shape itself can be what a lot of Westerners associate with adolescence. Combine that with good make up and a somewhat young fashion style, and Westerners think they look young.

But I think it's one of those self-fulfilling prophecies. Obviously most middle aged Asian people do not look like teenagers, but they probably don't notice those people. It's the people that do look young that reinforce the stereotype with people.

Okay, but white celebrities also tend to fit many of the physical characteristics you describe: thin/fit, youthful, good make up, more up to date fashions, etc. This is the look that media favors, period. But nobody looks at Lucy Lawless and says, "Wow, you look amazing, but then of course you're white." Because that would probably sound ridiculous to most people, right? But somehow it's just common knowledge if you substitute "Asian" for "white" and... I hope you can see the problems inherent in that.

I know that? I'm just trying to explain why I think there's a stereotype. Obviously lots of white people look young, and lots of Asians look old.
