Depends on the canon for me. I have a thing for masks, secrecy and trickery, which depending on the canon can lend itself to either heroes or villains. On the flipside, I have a deep, abiding love for honourable idiots, particularly tragic honourable idiots who should have known better but didn't. Again, those can be both protagonists or antagonists. I do generally like it when people are trying to do what they honestly believe is the right thing, and well-intentioned extremists are often my favourite sorts of villains. Sometimes, the combination of various proportions of these traits ends with me liking ... let's call them 'controversial characters', but basically one round through fandom disinclined me to argue about these much anymore.

I will say, I have an odd sticking point regarding a character's attitude more than their morality, in that I hate assholes. I'm much more likely to enjoy a polite villain, even if they're objectively horrifying, than I am a jackass hero. I don't know, I like things big and meaningful, even if they're terrible, and petty assholery just gets up my nose.
