I think most pandering accusations in media are dumb, because especially big-money media isn't going to do something just to please a tiny fringe outspoken tumblr minority. And rarely is media ever all that groundbreaking, usually big name stuff like Hollywood really do wait until the water is at least lukewarm before going off and doing something unconventional, and you can't half blame them when you remember that it's a business. At best, media might try to be shocking or make a name for itself, but rarely is it "pandering", imo.
