If you don't want spoilers def stay away from fanfic! It can be VERY hard telling what has them and what doesn't, so your only option would be to find stuff written during the first season and read that. I do want to read some Reese/Finch, but I never got around to it. When/if I do I'll rec it in GC.

I think you're right in that they could work in canon, but I don't think the show will go there anyway. However, I would love to be proved wrong. I don't even feel like it would feel unusual or all that shocking, and as long as the writing was correct then it would feel like a pretty natural progression of their relationship.

asks John who's taking care of him now and he replies "Someone new"

Ugh, so shippy. So good.

It seems like the show MIGHT end after this upcoming season. The show-runners seem very self aware though, so no matter what happens I think they want the best for it and want a great resolution for the cast, so I'm going to have faith in them. A happy ending is probably not in the cards, at least not for everyone, but I can't imagine them not doing what they feel makes sense for the plot and I am kind of excited at the prospect of seeing it all unfold, no matter when it ends.

I've heard it might end too...there will also be only 16 episodes, iirc. The writers said they have had a plan on how to end it since the very beginning, so I guess the ending should make sense. I hope it will, I really hate when something I adore wraps up with a shitty finale.

I know chances are the two of them won't end up together, at least not in way that will make it clear, but a tiny nod in that direction would be nice at least.

Well, I think there was some major foreshadowing in the pilot when Finch told Reese they would both sooner or later wind up dead. Essentially, they made a suicide pact and I would not be surprised if the show ended with Finch's 'prophecy' coming true. It wouldn't be happy and it would break my heart, but it would make perfect sense.

16 episodes is kind of disappointing...I thought we were getting 22. :( But anything is better than nothing, and 16 is still enough to get a good bit of plot in.

The writers said they have had a plan on how to end it since the very beginning

That pleases me! I would much rather they have a game plan then make things up as they go along. When the writers already know what they want things tend to go more smoothly.
