Huh. I'll clap to that. Dunno who she is, but go her!

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Right? I have no idea why that would get under OP's skin.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-29 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously. I think that's a harder hard line to draw than OP realizes.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-29 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't. I'm not OP but I'd be a little uncomfortable, and maybe feel less sympathetic towards her, too. With the context I'd understand the decision but if someone were to just flat out say "no nude with me" it's like saying "I'm not doing action scenes". I totally respect that but I would be very suspicious of the people clapping to it because I dislike how nudity is considered shameful (I was raised among nudists :-P) and in my personal experience enough people just pretend to dislike it for social justice reasons and actually are just prudes.
I get that there is oversexualization and an imbalance in the depiction of men and women in the media but making a show of "respecting" someones decision not to comply with the "pressure" we also morally support their decisions explicit content, which is, in this case, is to "stay dressed". And the media not existing in a cultural vacuum, I think it's actually more problematic to support a morality of "staying dressed", when you can't even bare your tits in public to feed your baby.
So, long story short: I wouldn't applaud because I'd feel that that action would give a prescriptive quality to a personal decision I very much respect.

You're right it isn't in a vacuum, so whythefuck in this industry where female actors can be treated like porn stars would you possibly be less sympathetic?

By the way, I have done paid porn work, my parents were nude all the time around me growing up, I like nudist beaches and bathhouses, and I have no compunctions in baring my tits in public to feed my baby (no one's ever said anything to me). So, you knowwww, I wish nudity was more acceptable too.

All the context I need is she's an actress saying she doesn't want to do nudity. Which is admirable because of how common it is in media and I admire that she's making a choice and going to stick to if. That's pretty tough - and she shouldn't be forced to nude scenes if she doesn't want to, regardless of hypothetical reasons as to why yet another nude scene is "good". More power to her.
