I get that fans can be overbearing but...I don't really see how that's Hayley's fault?

I've never been much of a fan of Jennifer Lawrence, for instance, and while I do find a lot of her fans annoying, I've never had a problem with her.

I wouldn't. I'm not OP but I'd be a little uncomfortable, and maybe feel less sympathetic towards her, too. With the context I'd understand the decision but if someone were to just flat out say "no nude with me" it's like saying "I'm not doing action scenes". I totally respect that but I would be very suspicious of the people clapping to it because I dislike how nudity is considered shameful (I was raised among nudists :-P) and in my personal experience enough people just pretend to dislike it for social justice reasons and actually are just prudes.
I get that there is oversexualization and an imbalance in the depiction of men and women in the media but making a show of "respecting" someones decision not to comply with the "pressure" we also morally support their decisions explicit content, which is, in this case, is to "stay dressed". And the media not existing in a cultural vacuum, I think it's actually more problematic to support a morality of "staying dressed", when you can't even bare your tits in public to feed your baby.
So, long story short: I wouldn't applaud because I'd feel that that action would give a prescriptive quality to a personal decision I very much respect.

I was really confused for a minute because I know I've seen shots of her topless from other movies and I thought she'd even done nude scenes before.

So she's just saying she won't do them JUST for titillation -- there has to be a purpose. I don't think that's wrong of her. I quite agree.

But yeah, she's talking about wanting to be true to the character and the story, and that if she feels her character's lack of clothing serves no purpose to the character or the story, she's gonna put her foot down.
