I think OP might be on Tumblr. I follow one person, who's been getting a lot of hateful messages about liking Tony after he was announced to be part of Civil War. Knowing the amount of vitriol Tumblr can generata, I can definitely see, how that might make someone want to hide the fact.

A lot of people love this character, though? I assume you made this a secret because you're aware he's got some undesirable personality traits, but frankly, I've never noticed fandom having a major issue with this. People are more than willing to forgive him and love him.

Me, too. I have a huge soft spot for him. And I kind of judge people who vehemently hate on Tony. It's okay if you just don't like him as a character, but the hate and bashing he receives is ridiculous.

There's something about being a Tony fan that makes people defensive of this character. Maybe because people are so polaraized on this, it's either love or hate.

Time to get off Tumblr and revel in the real world where Iron Man is the most popular Marvel character by far, thanks to the films. I went to this ice cream parlor the other days that was giving out Avengers figurines as part of some kind of promotion, and by Avengers figurines I mean five different models of Iron Man.

I see it mainly happening on tumblr. Tony's got some ugly flaws, which makes him absolute scum and incredibly problematic and all that. Not to mention he's pitted against Captain America, the golden boy (despite him also having some ugly flaws but they don't get focused on nor called out as much).
