Re: What would you try if you were trying meat for the first time?

Are you one of those SF_drama people who claim that people on welfare shouldn't 'mooch' on the government and just live on Beans and Lentils if your poor?

What the hell, where did you get that from what I said? I used to be poor (on welfare for a decade thanks to disability), and I ate a lotta beans and lentils. If someone who never ate meat felt they were forced to start eating meat, and endured sickness because of it, because they couldn't afford not to, I'm curious as to where the economics are such that meat is so darn cheap.

nayrt, but I'm not sure I see the issue with that? I get food stamps (and not much, at that), and I almost never buy meat because I enjoy like...eating every day? If I stock up on beans and lentils, that means that I'm guaranteed to have a full stomach most days. If I skimp on other stuff and buy meat, I get really great meals for a few days, and then a bunch of really shitty ones that wear off within an hour for a week. It's not really a nice way to live.

The exception is that sometimes bagged frozen chicken breasts go on sale, and I can comfortably get one of those. That'll last me a while. But they're not always on sale, so I don't always get them.
