Home Repairs

My shower faucet won't stop dripping. What do I do?

Call a plumber. Or your landlord. Depending.

Landlord won't be back until Monday morning...and I pay the water bill. :(

I told them today too...

Turn the water off, then replace the washer, turn the water back on again.

The washer? What's that? (Dumb question maybe but I legit don't know.)

Just pay for the emergency plumber then, it'll work out cheaper.

I don't know if I'm allowed to do that though.

I rent my apartment and they have staff to fix stuff. This isn't exactly an emergency (the faucet's just dripping) but I'm worried about it impacting my water bill.

And it's annoying as fuck.

If it is dripping badly enough to affect your bill (I would call that gushing though, rather than dripping) then call in a plumber. If it isn't then live with it until the landlord deals. Look that is pretty much your options. Flip a coin.

DA

I had a bathtub faucet that was the same. This was the first (and the last) place I ever lived in where I had to pay for the water. Never again. Faucet started dripping middle of the month, the water bill was $300 at the end of the month. I should note that this municipality was basically convicted of fraud/jacking up prices sky-high on essential services, a couple years ago. The mayor was investigated, but I never followed the story because I moved out of that dunghole of a town as quickly as possible.

+1 The internet is your friend, look up some youtube videos, there's a lot of them from plumbers and other repair people on there!

Turn off water at mains, figure out how to remove tap, get out manky washer, take it to hardware shop, get them to get a new one, take home put it in, replace, turn on water at mains. Done!

Take off shower head, see if washer is broken or out of place, put washer back in. If shower head still drips, it's time for a new one.

Pictures will help for type but yeah, take it off - check out the small metal ring. if it's rusty or warped or something, go to a store with it and ask for a new one, go back, pop it in.

Could also pop a bucket under the drip and use the water to idk water plants or dishes so it's "not wasted" while waiting for your landlord? Dripping water will damage the sink overtime, if they're slow to convince.

Call a plumber then file for bankruptcy.

If you're just waiting until Monday, and the drip isn't too bad, put a bucket or big bowl under the faucet and use the water to flush the toilet by dumping it into the toilet bowl. Or wash dishes, or water houseplants, or hand-wash delicate clothes. Or see if you've got a broken washer.
