robin stabs the sheriff, the sheriff is dying, the witch promises to save the sheriff's life if he agrees to marry her, he does, she saves him, he gets dragged off

the tone of joke was about marriage more than rape tho iirc. he did, technically, promise marriage not sex

Hmm. That kinda takes it back into iffy territory for me. :-/

It's also making me realize just how much of that movie I've forgotten. The only thing I remember about the end is Robin having to call the locksmith for Marian's chastity belt.

At the end of the movie the Sheriff of Rottingham finally gets caught by the court sorceress who's been trying to shag him the whole movie. He's about to die, he agrees to marry the witch in return for his life... rape by coercion.

It's equal parts played for laughs and equal parts comeuppance but the more I think about that entire situation the more I dislike it.

Damn it activism, why.

idk to me it read like a ball and chain and aw fuck now he's doomed to be stuck as husbando-servant of this old witch. the tone it was in felt more like a marriage oh no stuck foreveeeerrr joke than a sex-related one to me

it may be colored by the fact that i always saw the old lady as wanting to own the sheriff as a pretty toy and not a sex object throughout the film

That might be your childhood goggles. She makes pretty explicit references to wanting to "ride" him, and other sexual innuendos... pretty much every time they're on screen together.

may be. it's been a while. i do remember those innuendos but i also remember figuring they were typical pervy granny for humor comments, not literal on her end.
