I agree. It feels like you're talking about someone behind their back in a rather passive-aggressive way to make your post an obvious reply to another, yet not link it or refer to it directly.

Yet replying directly under the post itself is seen as bad tumblr etiquette and close to bullying, which I will never understand.

There's really no way to have a proper dialogue on tumblr, like we're having right now on this thread, for instance. It's a real difficulty when so much of fandom has moved to tumblr, yet the culture and format there are so unfriendly towards any kind of debate.
