Vanity sizing sucks, especially when online shopping. I should not order size Z when I am size Z everywhere else and then have to exchange it for size Z minus 2 sizes. I have NEVER worn size Z-2. It's ridiculous and I feel so pandered to.

I actually had the opposite happen. I bought something in my size, and it was clearly two sizes too small despite what it says on the label. I just donated it to my mom (who is two sizes smaller) because that's pretty much the most useful thing I could do with it.

Agreed. I usually order online brands that I have worn earlier and even then I sometimes have to return the item, because that particular piece of clothing was larger/smaller than usual. Trying any new brands is ridiculous, because you never can tell in advance if they are going to be true to size or using vanity sizing.

I look at the size chart and compare to my hip/bust measurements. Mostly had success that way, I mostly buy online now.

This is what I should have done. I thought I might be one size off, but it never entered my mind I could be that far off. Apparently the brand has a real vanity sizing issue these days though.

I always try to look at the reviews for any particular item, if there are any. You can usually get a good idea from what other people have said if something runs large/small. The bad part of this is when you see something you want but it's brand new so no reviews yet (and then it turns out to be popular and the reviews only show up after all the stock is sold out in the color I want...).

Yeah, it was new. The few reviews said it was true to size. I hadn't shopped there (online or in store) in ages. I guess they've changed their sizing in the last decade!
