Tips on Making Your Own

Does anybody here have their own webcomic? If so, how do you manages update scheduling and things like that.

I'm in the process of starting a new one, but with my old one, I tended to have an open schedule of "update at least once a week, maybe twice if you feel up for it." It had a small audience (200 or so people) so I didn't feel a lot of pressure to hurry and churn out updates. A larger scale webcomic usually does better with updates 2-4 times a week. Then again, it also depends on the content of the webcomic (gag-a-day comics should probably be even more frequent, like 5-7 per week).

With regards to actually making the updates, I just had to find time to sit down and make a decent-enough buffer of content to post. There will be days where you can't find the time to draw, and it will only stress you out if you try rushing an update. Instead, try to get as much as you can done on the days you're free to do whatever, and if by chance you can't get an update out on time, let your readers know. They should understand.

Thank you.

I'm thinking of a once a week thing at first, depending on how quickly I can get the digital touch ups and coloring done.

You're welcome! That's a good starting point.

Another tip (that I never used; I'm not good with set-in-stone schedules :T) is to try setting a certain day that you'll publish an update. Say, Friday morning, Tuesday afternoon, some time on Sunday, etc. This will give your readers a day to look forward to every week. Don't let the "deadline" stress you out, though. If you don't feel you can have a serious schedule, don't worry about it, and post whenever you get the chance instead.

I'll probably end up being a "whenever I have a chance-er", knowing me. I suck at set in stone schedules too.
