How to revamp a wardrobe?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-04 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going from being a full-time office-worker with a professional wardrobe to full-time student. Some of my pieces I can dress down, but I'm going to need a lot of new clothes (since I don't want to be the weirdo showing up to class in a sheath dress and heels). Anyone have advice for how to start over? Do I just buy a bunch of new stuff at once or slowly build up a new wardrobe?

I wouldn't buy too much stuff at once. Nice slacks will dress up for a job interview, but they'll still look good with a casual top or sweater. Maybe a few new things for fun, but wait and see how others dress.

Do you have casual clothes, like jeans and t-shirts? You can wear those. Wear your nice work shirts with jeans. Pair the sheath dress with sandals instead of heels.

AYRT: not many, tragically. I focused way too much on building a work wardrobe so my casual clothes really suffered. All my casual stuff is in awful shape, and to add insult to injury, I mostly wore dresses to work since I hate getting pants hemmed, so I don't even have any nice shirts.

I'm definitely going to try to dress down my dresses, but I don't really have any jeans I can throw in the mix right now.

Buy a few basics (jeans, maybe a skirt, and some tees/shirts). Make sure you can mix those basics with some of the clothes you have already. See how you go mixing and matching those, and buy items to supplement this wardrobe as necessary.
