I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but people do eat them. I'm a vegetarian, but honestly, if I could get over being grossed out, I would eat bugs. They require less food to produce more protein than chicken eggs.

DA I've eaten tarantula :) Chicken-y? Have not brought myself to eat deep fried crickets yet though. An excellent protein source, bugs, just a bit chitinous.

with cicadas, you can apparently catch them as tenerals--i.e., just molted, before their exoskeleton has a chance to harden up. Then you batter and fry them like you would soft shell crabs.
