Fear of darkness is a pretty common fear, and not one I feel is anything that odd or shameful. I have a bit of it too, but it was worse when I was younger. I still sleep with a lamp on because sleeping in total darkness doesn't work for me; it makes me anxious and I can't fall asleep. I don't mind walking around with lights off unless it's nighttime, but honestly that's more about me not wanting to accidentally trip and break my neck than fear of something hiding in the darkness. (Though frankly, I've had moments where I worried about those things. Fears are often irrational. *shrugs*)
