Re: Question about intersectional feminism

Someone mentioned the example of kpop above, which could count. Imagine the same amount of misdirected homophobia thrown at Justin Bieber for being a 'fag' then imagine those same idiots assuming all asians are 'faggy' because surely they're all like the asian boybands they see. Gaaay. Asia is full of fags who like crossdressing! Why are they so gay?

I've legitimately seen this happen. It used to be all over during the days when J-rock was big.

I suppose, but I don't see how racism and homophobia are inherently tied together still. Just that they can overlap. And no one thinks "Asians are literally homosexuals" even if they are stereotypically smaller and less "macho" looking.

And then there's the question, what about homophobia in Asia then.

Lol, Asian men are often considered less manly in Western society, and find it pretty hard in gay culture to get considered as anything other than bottoms.

Why on earth would racism tied to homophobia preclude homophobia in Asia????

Re: Question about intersectional feminism

Because it's racism that allows racists to paint a whole race of people as fags, as opposed to seeing Justin Bieber as a 'faggy' individual who isn't representative of all white men. It's the racism that allows the broad sweeping judgments of 'other' people.

Saying one black man in gangsta rap looks like a broke criminal is not inherently racist or classist. Saying black men are broke criminals, look at the people in 'their' music! ... is racist.

Anon wasn't saying racism and homophobia are 'inherently tied together always in every instance' but it sure does 'tie into homophobia' at least some of the time. Exactly like racism ties into misogyny, absolutely, in many cases.

Regarding your question about homophobia in Asia, Asia in general is prejudiced as fuck against white people because being gay is considered 'a white people thing.' There are people who legitimately believe there are no gays in Asia who haven't been corrupted by 'Westernization' and it's 'Westerners' who do that kind of thing, not 'us' Asian people. Gay rights and social acceptance are so far behind there, partially because of that exact xenophobic mindset.

correction: Asia in general is prejudiced as fuck against gays* and it ties into race issues because being gay is considered 'a white people' thing

Can't forget about anti-gay laws being considered moral and pro-family, and people making it a point to call them more moral than the ~debauched West and its loose white people, which is why asians are totes better

The above is sarcasm btw

Whoever you think you're speaking for, it's definitely not me.

~whoever I think I'm speaking for lol

Not individuals on a personal level, and I wasn't trying to speak for you at all. You aren't big enough. I was talking about a pattern visible in governments and politics.

Are Americans all racist against black people? No but our system and politics and a whole lot of our elected officials sure as fuck significantly are.
