Plus I imagine you'd need somewhere that has a lot of lead roof flashing so you can ply your traditional trade.

the most famous irish book is a picture book.

Technically correct, in the sense of a book with pictures in it, if you're talking about the Book of Kells. I don't think a latin illustrated manuscript will go down well with children, however. Possibly a tad difficult, unless the child in question is from a Buffyverse Watcher family or something.

Michael Flatley's autobiography isn't just pictures of himself.

Well, I mean. Probably.

I think you might be getting a bit obscure here irish-hating!anon because I honestly don't understand what this means. Like, I'm assuming that it's prejudiced in some way but you might have to break it down for me.

There is a stereotype - I think specifically in the UK - of the Irish being associated with the kind of low-rent criminality that would, for instance, spend a lot of time stealing lead off roofs to sell.

DA

1. Why would anyone put a poisonous metal on their roof?

2. Why would anyone STEAL a poisonous metal from a roof?

3. Why do I even care LOL.

It's a soft heavy relatively corrosion-resistant metal, I assume.

only if you drink the water from lead pipes? Like, it doesn't poison the air.

Copper sounds like a better option, but you'd probably be even more likely to get that stolen.

Re: If you had to emigrate

As I understand it, lead poisoning comes primarily from ingestion, which is more of a concern with lead water pipes and flaking lead paints, and less of a concern with roofing material unless you're up and licking it for whatever reason. It's malleable and resistant to corrosion, so it's been used in roofing for a few centuries. It's also pretty useful stuff more generally (things like car batteries use it), so long as it's not leaking into your food/water, so it presumably has a market value.
