I am not a doctor, just a cyclist, but I'd guess if you got the scans, then there's no bone damage. You might have muscle or ligament damage that's not going to show up so easily. Might be worth wrapping it with a tensor bandage, and icing it when you can. Better still to see a physiotherapist, but I usually opt for the wait and see method. Eventually (sometimes 6-months-eventually) they get better on their own. Maybe I've just been lucky.

One problem here is I need to be able to do a day of sparring in the next couple of months, otherwise I'll be on restricted duties at work until it fully heals up. Will certainly have to get that clarified, as much as it sucks would be worse if I ignored it and ended up doing some permanent damage.

Then I'd head off to the physio, because the few times I re-injured myself, it took many MONTHS to heal. So if it's giving you warning signs, I'd definitely get it checked out before sparring.
