Actually yeah. A lot of people are in a bad mood and depressed and they take it out on everyone else who is having a good time. It's like schadenfreude. They feel bad, so the only way for them to feel better is to tear others down.

I know in my fandom there are people who like unpopular characters/ships so they constantly bitch about the popular stuff and try to shame and trash the fans. In reality they are just butthurt the stuff they like isn't popular.

I've never once seen a hater that didn't have some obvious bias in the other direction.
