There was a comment about America AS A COUNTRY not individuals ie YOU that was nonetheless a bit on the nose in tone.

I think perhaps the problem is this is one of those situations where everyone is very specifically seeing things from their own perspectives.

It might be the case that, on the one hand, the non-Americans see all the American patriotism and think Americans in general are unaware of the problems with their country and are just pompous arrogant asses spouting off hyper-patriotism constantly, and so they respond in that light.

Contrariwise, the Americans - or at least some of the Americans - are painfully aware of the problems of the government and the society, and so see the non-American reaction as a bunch of pretentious people choosing to look down their noses from their superior perches and have a good laugh at the expense of the poor unfortunates who still have to deal with racism and poverty and gun violence.

So it's one of those things perhaps where each thinks the other is looking down on them.

America as a country is made up of individual Americans. When you shit o the country as a whole, you shit on its individuals, too.

Oh PLEASE, what sort of paranoid attitude is it that when you see someone criticise a country's policies, you think it means they mean each and every citizen is fucked?

I can criticise the HELL out of my own country, this doesn't mean I think I'm a bad person LOL
