I've never gotten into American TV because there are usually too many episodes. I don't want to start something that's too dragged out or has multiple streaks of bad episodes. Reviews that say it only gets good after a season or so, or you should skip X eps really discourage me.

S!B There are shows with interesting premises I want to watch if I could just get over the medium's limits

Yeah, there are a lot of filler episodes in a standard American TV season.
