I've been interested in getting Linux Mint for a long time now, but is it true that Windows software won't work on it? Like games and such?

VBox package -> virtual machine -> install ISO of XP -> Profit!

That said, most everything I needed, I found equivalent packages for. Depends what kind of games you are playing, though. One MMPORG worked quite well for me, but that was an early release, so it might be better/worse now, IDK. There were no graphics issues with Mint, however.

a word of warning, if your computer has a nvidia graphic card (which apparently widely used by HP and such for being super cheap or something?), you might run into problems that are annoying to fix (but fixable, at least)
