Same. Before Pokebank, I could easily find parents to Masuda Method for a shiny by WTing for an hour or two, and I often get stuff that I end up putting into bank in case I need them because they have egg moves I haven't bred yet or something.

Oh yeah, the GTS is great for stuff like filling your dex. I filled my dex just by putting up 5IV spitbacks, even for legendaries. I find this is usually in the spirit of giving though, not receiving. If I'm scrolling through GTS or passers by and they're asking for a shiny I happen to have on me, I'll usually trade it to them. One of the best times I did that was for a passer by who was so excited to receive the shiny Bagon I gave her, she changed her message to 'Thank you Shadow!!!' and requested to see my PR vid and battle. Reactions like that are exactly why I try to keep on giving.

Ahh I don't have Pokebank. The most recent Pokemon game I played before X was, well. Blue. :P The original one. But I got way obsessed with this one and definitely was breeding for Shinys and IVs and such. I haven't yet filled my dex though! I mostly just Wondertrade unless there's a particular Pokemon I want. I was really obsessed with getting Mew for a long time, but apparently it was banned from the GTS? I don't know about Wondertrade though. I ended up making my message thing "Mew?!" and eventually someone randomly traded it to me, that was awesome.

I've played almost all the games, but I only started getting serious in XY, so we're more or less on the same boat :p When Pokebank got out, other people who RNG abused 6IV Dittos and things transferred them over to give out to people who need them, so that's when I stopped relying on WT for parents.

Oh the GTS doesn't allow people to trade special Pokemon, which are Pokemon with a ribbon to signify the fact that they come from an event. Mew is an event-exclusive Pokemon (like Celebi and Victini) so it's impossible to trade one without an event ribbon on the GTS, but I think something went wrong in Nintendo's hack-detecting system lately, the GTS has allowed event-exclusive 'mons with no ribbon (meaning they're hacked) to go up.

Ahh I see, though I just checked for Mews and didn't see any! Still, they can be Wondertraded, right?

I just got another Legendary (that I had never heard of) called Cresselia in exchange for a Weedle. :( Man, I was cleaning out my Pokebox and sending nicer stuff, too - a couple Machokes and Poliwhirls, even, which are always fun! But this person got my Weedle. Haha... I do feel bad, but I also suppose someone who hacks Legendaries probably isn't in great need of anything I might be able to offer, anyway.

No, not WTed either. Other than event-only Pokemon, you can't WT or put up on the GTS Pokemon from Colosseum or XD either, now that I think about it.

Cresselia! She's the first legendary Pokemon I sat down to soft-reset for perfect IVs. I release Pokemon I know are hacked immediately, but I think I have a hacked Cresselia somewhere in my Bank because I love her so much.

How come you release hacked Pokemon, if I may ask? I haven't heard about them doing any harm or anything to your data. I guess I get people who want the challenge of getting all the Pokemon legitimately, but for me it's hard enough to complete the Pokedex (especially the Legendaries!) without even worrying about the Pokemon being legitimate or not, haha

Oh because I participate in competitions and tournaments, and if I forget a Pokemon is hacked and accidentally use it, I could be disqualified or outright banned if it's discovered. I am very dedicated to this game besides and I hang out on sites with a strong Pokemon community that love helping each other out so it's not hard for me to get legit Pokemon at all. I started my collection with nothing except some stuff I got from WT and now I have hundreds of rare ball females, shinies, legendaries, etc. It's pretty easy to get involved in the Pokemon community, it's very kind and welcoming. Smogon especially is really great though it gets very competitive in some areas.

Ahh, I see! Yeah, I can understand why competitions and such would really not be pleased about hacked Pokemon - though I hear sometimes they are basically impossible to tell apart? I don't know if I'm dedicated enough to do tournaments and stuff, but I'm enjoying collecting and still get really excited about getting Legendaries and Shinies (especially Shiny Legendaries!). Maybe I should join up the Pokemon community if there are charitable people willing to give away things like that.

Oh it depends on the hacker. A hacker who knows a lot about Pokemon, event IDs, legal ball combinations, legal moves, etc. could probably do it perfectly, but in my experience, the people who tend to know about that stuff know because they themselves want to avoid hacks. I've seen a lot of ridiculous hacks that people have tried to pass off as legit.

When I first started out I was pretty excited about shinies and things too, but now when I know how to get legit shinies in about an hour tops, the lustre does fade a little haha. But you should definitely try out Smogon. The Wifi section is full of some of the nicest people you will ever meet, and there's a Giveaway subforum where people host giveaways of all kinds of things. Smogon can be rather strict, but the mods are understanding, especially towards newer members.
