I think it,'s worth remembering that the long American TV season was created with the idea that you should be able to tune in and watch random episodes and still enjoy them... The 'appointment TV' thing is pretty recent and just because you CAN stream so many shows these days doesn't mean you have to -- ask your friends which are the best episodes & seek those out, or find out which episodes are referenced in fanworks you enjoy & watch those. You may miss some things you wouldn't if you watched it all through but you won't be wasting time watching things you don't enjoy.
