Nothing wrong with that. imo it's Andrew Lloyd Webber's best work - actually his only work that I'd personally consider really amazing, though there's one or two other "maybe"s. JSC is such a perfect show.

Plus the 1970s Heaven On Their Minds is the best version. I like them all, but he does that one bit on "sour" that no other version does, I love the campy rock awesomeness.

Nothing wrong with that. The songs are fun to sing! (Herod's is my favorite because it's so OTT, but I also really enjoy "I Don't Know How to Love Him")

Rock on, OP.

My favorite songs are in Act 1 but I love trying to sing along to Gethsemane [I'm amazed at the people who can hold that note - gah]
bur: Captain America being all Sleeping Beauty. (Cap asleep)

There are lungs, and then there are Gethsemane lungs.

I'm an atheist but I know every word of this soundtrack and listen to it quite often. It's terrific!

It's an atheist musical though?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really, no. Sceptical, maybe.

There's definitely nothing religious about it, and that's what I mean by atheist. The closest "supernatural" thing I can think of is Judas singing the actual Jesus Christ Superstar song after his death, usually with angel-clad back-up singers, but I think it's a stretch to take that literally. Especially since the lyrics of the song are purely skeptic and bring in other religions as well (Buddha and Muhammad), and it's probably more thematic than anything. Since it goes out of its way to portray Jesus as a human and not a god, and there's no assurance that God exists at all (in fact, Jesus is the only one who is concerned about God at all) I'd say it's pretty safe to say it isn't a religiously affiliated show at all. It's a secular human drama.

Singing is always a great thing to do. :)

I do the same, although I prefer the 1996 London studio recording.

Hey, I cue up 'O, Fortuna!' (a medieval Latin Goliardic poem written early in the 13th century, part of the collection known as the Carmina Burana. It is a complaint about fate and Fortuna, the personification of luck in Roman mythology. Most famously used in 'Excalibur',1981) and a page with the words and sing along to that in Latin. It's so very awesome, and the pronunciation is always a surprise, heh.

So go for it! Singing makes you happy, makes me happy - who cares what you sing, or when, or how often? Enjoy!

Secret why? It's a fabulous musical.

You're not the only one. *cough*

My voice doesn't really quite stretch for the movie actor's, but I particularly love singing Judas's parts. And Pilate's. >_>

great OST; I actually own the CDs and the film, too
I tend to listen to it before Easter while I clean the house
