I was fine with this till the last part

I haven't seen Minions, but I like Despicable Me more than the Toy Story movies too. It's just more my kind of story, and it has an almost Roald Dahl-ish kind of edge to it that I prefer.

I mean I'm not an animator but I agree with you on the rest. I love Despicable Me way more than toy story. Those girls, it was about adoption, the minions are pretty fucking cute. The sequel was pretty good to with the new mum but I wasn't as personally invested in it but I still think it was an amazing theme to tackle.

Also the minions are cute. Bob was easily my fave cause cute and different coloured eyes.

It's okay to have preferences?

I don't get why people suddenly started hating Minions either. What happened? Those FB memes where it's just some random phrase/advice/opinion with a picture of a Minion beside it are stupid, but they don't really have anything to do with the movies.

I thought the movie was ok, but preferred them in Despicable Me 1 & 2. Their type of humor is great for short absurd asides, but it didn't quite work for a main story. Still a fun movie, just not *as* fun.

People started hating them when the memes got popular because of oversaturation, plus the memes were adopted by middle-aged soccer moms which are the epitome of uncool, don'tcha know? ;)

I thought they were really cute in Despicable Me (haven't seen the sequel) but I just don't think they needed their own movie? They're better in small doses. And now they're EVERYWHERE.

I love Despicable Me 1 and 2 more than any of the Toy stories. And I loved the minions in those movies. Minions was horrible, though.

Just going by the first movie, they didn't bother me, but I can see how by now it's probably overkill.

idk about better than Toy Story, but I liked Despicable Me a lot, and I like Minions. I didn't realize it was popular to hate them now, but I'm not really surprised since they've been in a lot of marketing lately.

Yeah, I am mostly indifferent to them, but I have seen so many not particularly funny Minions memes on FB that I'm getting really sick of the sight of them. I know that's not actually the fault of the original works, but it still kind of taints them by association.

This is news to me as well, I thought they were loved. So inoffensive and cute, I don't see the problem.
Plus I think Pierre Coffin is very clever, maybe all those other animators are just jealous because he had the idea.

Oh do animators hate this movie or something? Honestly that community is so insular and cut off from everything else it's amazing.

Animators don't hate the movie, they just hate the minions themselves.

I like the Minions as a concept, but they've taken over a heartwarming story about adoption and that's Not Okay with me. They've shifted the point of view from Gru and the girls to them and most people will recall Minions before the adoption storyline.
