hey friend, if you want to save a ton of money, buy a big can of one-minute quaker oats and follow the directions. you can add literally whatever you want into them and it'll still be cheaper than oatmeal packets, and you can mostly use it in whatever recipes need oatmeal.

i think your current oatmeal packets would be best served as regular oatmeal for yourself, but only because the extra ingredients like brown sugar or whatever would possibly mess with the flavor or chemistry of whatever recipe you would use.

also, consider soup in a a mug? i don't think I ate chicken noodle with a spoon until i was maybe 14 years old and it never hurt me any. that might be an option for quite a while if your mom's problems with silverware progress.

sorry I can't be more helpful, but i can't really cook so I don't know any finger-food recipes off the top of my head. good luck.

The funny thing is that I have oatmeal for myself from the brand "Love Grown Foods"! I could of course, stash the oatmeal packets at work and see if anyone uses them.
