I never notice stuff like that.

Do most people notice stuff like that? I don't think so...

I notice stuff like that. You can tell a LOT about a person by their linguistic choices.

I live in terror that two of my online identities will one day be connected to each other based on my rigorous use of semicolons and the rhythm of my dialogue tags.

I am also rigorous with my semicolon usage, so maybe I will throw them off the scent.

I can absolutely tell anons apart by their linguistic choices, as well as their grammar and spelling. I'm mod of an anon meme so it's a useful skill to have, and one that I've deliberately practiced so I can get better at it.

I'm not always right, but surprisingly often. I gauge myself by guessing before checking the IP addresses.

The international nature of the internet makes it a lot easier as the differences are between whole different parts of the world with very different speech patterns, as well as the individual backgrounds and personalities.

Yeah, sure Case.

Ha ha, you spelled 'gauge' correctly.

(Seriously, these days I sit up and take notice whenever someone uses the word 'discreet'. It's so rare...)

Yep. I can definitely tell if you are paying attention. People tend to use grammar patterns that are unique to them or they have a certain dialect where they choose certain words instead of others. You can tell their personality by the mood they convey. Sometimes they repeat the same stuff they find funny or clever.

Some people are very brief and some write a lot. Some don't put two spaces between paragraphs. Some.... overuse... ellipses. Some make the same spelling errors or use colour instead of color.

You can definitely tell.

Well, I'm paranoid, now.
