that's kind of silly, but I totally do the same thing. sometimes when I see big bang fics with super ugly art at the beginning, it kind of puts me off of the fic. not usually enough for me to refuse to give the fic a try, but it does kind of ruin the first impression a bit. I know that's unfair because the art in no way reflects the quality of the fic (I mean, I've seen big bang fics that are kind of shitty get really gorgeous art) and that the author kind of has to include the art to be polite even if they themselves don't like it, but I can't help having a knee jerk reaction

In general, I prefer Big Bang art and the fic it illustrates to be kept separate for this reason. It's very hard to forget bad art, especially if it's of the characters.

I don't think the writer has to include the art in the fic. Often it's just linked to, especially on AO3. That's fine.

When both art and fic are good and suit each other, it's fantastic. Each becomes even better by association. Pretty rare though.

Luckily my last Big Bang involved posting the fanart and fanfic separately. And thank God, because not only did I get a mediocre artist, but they chose to illustrate a major plot spoiler :-(

Okay, plot spoilers are not good.

Maybe they meant for their art to be linked to at the end of the fic? I've seen that a lot.
