Dunno if this is too late, but here goes.

I'm in comic fandom, and lately, a small but very vocal (and VERY wordy) group of fans have started to complain that a certain male character is "too sexualized" in his comic book, because he's shirtless on occasion and some other characters are commenting on how attractive he is. It's a weird cross-section of meninists who are going "Look, female fans are pigs too!!", and fangirls who believe their precious fave is being tainted by being portrayed too sexily.

They are trying really hard to make the sexification of this one character into a Serious Social Cause. Essays have been written about how the comic is silently endorsing male rape. Furious, rude Tweets have been sent to creators. The group has compared itself to the "Black Lives Matter"-movement. Writers have been misquoted, rape statistics have been misquoted. Needless to say, the character in question has been declared utterly ruined by the added fanservice. This might look tame and kooky on paper, but really, the amount of words that has been poured into this "issue" is completely fucking insane. Of course, everyone who thinks it's not so bad is a brainless drone too hypnotized by the character's butt to use reading comprehension. It's very, very irritating.

The comic in question is "Grayson" by DC, by the way. I don't think there are very many DC fans on F!S, but in case you wanted to know.

Ugh, the fucking MRA and Gamergaate have started branching heavily into other geek areas. this shit is all over comics and sci-fi now.

Is the character in question Nightwing? He's always the trotted out example of how "Male rape is totes a major problem, yo!"

"too hypnotized by the character's butt"
Yeah it's nightwing. Man has ass for daze
