All the girls can have a cock and all the boys can have a vagina because why not and there's no way in hell I'm touching the porn even with a ten foot pole anymore.

I legit don't get who defines gender at this point, because it's appearently not clothes, interests, or your nether regions.

Literally, it's what you self-identify as. That's what I've discerned.

What I find so funny is that while gender and race are both social constructs, you're oppressive if you won't let someone change their gender, but heaven forbid if someone wants to change their race!

LOL -- I can't take it seriously personally but I just go with the flow because I don't give enough of a fuck.

How is that the same thing? People's brains literally have an inner concept of gender. No such mechanism exists for what damn skin colour you have. You know, science and all that. Sometimes those crazy sjws have a point.

Re: fandom drama

(Anonymous) 2015-08-13 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Gender is not a social construct. If it were,no one would be trans because they'd have no desire not to identufy as their socially-assigned gender. It's the pattern of behaviors we assign to genders that is the social construct.

Writing black characters in a story is wrong if you're white. Apparently. I have for the longest time made it a point to include OCs of color because my fandoms are predominantly white, but all this time I've just been an insensitive asshole. So to make everyone happy there shouldn't be ANY black characters in my fic, oh wait...

Damned if you do, damned if you don't with the whiney SJWs.

The obvious choice is to give up writing and just have POC do all of the writing. You're not allowed anymore. Sorry. Don't cook either, POC invented that

I actually legit saw someone say something like that once (I think it might have been on ontd_p), about how we have too many books by white male authors and that basically all white guys who want to be authors should step back and let the women/POC have a turn.

Re: fandom drama

(Anonymous) 2015-08-13 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
They're not wrong, but it'll never work like that. people want to be what they want to be, saying "you people should stop" will never ever work, we need to change things are the very root, we need to deincentivize them from wanting to be writers in the first place.

The only way I can think to do this would be to stop promoting the existing books by white male writers so heavily, less promotion, less sales, less valid avenue for money making, less white male writers. On the flip side more promotion for POC women means more sales, more money and more POC women seeing the career as a valid opportunity and starting writing. Ideally this would happen within the industry itself, but they will never start something like that, there's far too much money in backing the white male element, which is why we need to be the one's to start doing this. We need to promote more POC women and less white male creators.

This is what I have always held true, and this is what I've always taken away from this discussion, so is it possible this is what the person you're talking about was trying to say? not that white men need to stop, but we need to stop the encouragement of white men and start heavily encouraging POC women?

No one is allowed to call Cole their baby/boy/child because it is infantilising.

Oh, Dragon Age fandom.

I'm pretty sure I called Iron Bull my baby at some point during Inquisition, so I'm not sure why saying it about Cole would be so much worse.

Holy shit, are you my girlfriend?

Are you?

Like, have you been my girlfriend posting under the username caerbannog all this time and I never even realised? Does you boyfriend call you "Chibi-darling"?

I am legit paranoid about this now because that is the biggest rant my chibi-darling has for the fandom. How do you feel about the "Iron bull is a rapist" thing?

Haha! It's okay, you're clear. I'm not your girlfriend!

I don't have strong feelings on iron bull or cole drama. I only started dai last week and have yet to meet them!

<- slow player

The cole stuff is flooding my dash today and I think it's pretty stupid to be arguing over how people refer to him (or interpret?). Maybe I follow your girlfriend?

Dunno if this is too late, but here goes.

I'm in comic fandom, and lately, a small but very vocal (and VERY wordy) group of fans have started to complain that a certain male character is "too sexualized" in his comic book, because he's shirtless on occasion and some other characters are commenting on how attractive he is. It's a weird cross-section of meninists who are going "Look, female fans are pigs too!!", and fangirls who believe their precious fave is being tainted by being portrayed too sexily.

They are trying really hard to make the sexification of this one character into a Serious Social Cause. Essays have been written about how the comic is silently endorsing male rape. Furious, rude Tweets have been sent to creators. The group has compared itself to the "Black Lives Matter"-movement. Writers have been misquoted, rape statistics have been misquoted. Needless to say, the character in question has been declared utterly ruined by the added fanservice. This might look tame and kooky on paper, but really, the amount of words that has been poured into this "issue" is completely fucking insane. Of course, everyone who thinks it's not so bad is a brainless drone too hypnotized by the character's butt to use reading comprehension. It's very, very irritating.

The comic in question is "Grayson" by DC, by the way. I don't think there are very many DC fans on F!S, but in case you wanted to know.

Can't wait for these whiney teenage SJW to grow up and actually encounter real world problems.

Ugh, the fucking MRA and Gamergaate have started branching heavily into other geek areas. this shit is all over comics and sci-fi now.

Is the character in question Nightwing? He's always the trotted out example of how "Male rape is totes a major problem, yo!"

"too hypnotized by the character's butt"
Yeah it's nightwing. Man has ass for daze

Speaking of Dragon Age -fandom, the new DLC came out yesterday, and while I'm not saying people shouldn't be critical of it, I just don't get people who complain and complain and then buy it anyway and complain a bit more, because wah it sucks, wah it's Deep Roads, wah it's not all about Solas, wah it doesn't have The Warden. (also how many times does Bioware have to say they won't put The Warden in future games in person, before people stop demanding it. even if they could do it, I doubt it would please even a fraction of the fans)

Personally, I'm liking it. It looks pretty and it's challenging and there's dwarf-lore and that's all I wanted.
