Yeah, we had a death like that in MN this summer. Of course, after everyone was freaked out, they did say the kid had a previous head injury that made him a little more susceptible to getting sick but all the doctors the news interviewed reminded everyone the risk is the same in all bodies of water (which is that it is rare).

I used a nose plug for the first time this year when swimming in the lake but I'm a paranoid sort.

They said that kid died of meningitis or something. It wasn't a brain-eating amoeba after all.
