(Anonymous) 2015-08-13 12:22 am (UTC)(link)Am I wrong, or does there seem to be a growing trend for photo manips at the moment, especially to advertise fests or to accompany big bang art? It's like they outnumber other art by some margin right now in that quarter.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-13 12:32 am (UTC)(link)I think the popularity of photomanips comes and goes in fandoms. In the early 2000s, photomanips were everywhere (especially in LOTR fic. Good lord). It seemed like nearly every other fic I read back then had a banner and a shitty photomanip. Several years later, photomanips seemed to fade out of style. They were certainly still around (they've remained reasonably common throughout the Supernatural fandom's history for example), but it definitely seemed to be in a much diminished capacity. I guess now we might be heading towards another cycle where they're "in." God help us.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-13 02:00 am (UTC)(link)lmao, I remember seeing a crazy amount of terrible Aragorn/Legolas manips. The mpreg mention earlier in the thread reminds me that I saw a lot of those for that pairing too. The Legolas ones were bad enough, but there was something extra funny about coming across the odd pregnant Aragorn manip every once in a while. It was probably the beard that did it. Sure, there were also fandoms for things like Harry Potter that had (or have, idk) a ton of terrible manips too, but there was something special about LOTR
