Canon is only what's actually in the book/movie/series/game. What creators say isn't automatically canon. Especially if they say it years and years after the original thing was released.

Agreed. I'm 100% about Death of the Author though - if you meant to put it in the text, put it in the freaking text.

Yes, creators don't get to use social media and DVD releases to take mulligans on sloppy writing and editing.

Agree with this. Also, Buffy comics canon does not apply to Buffy TV canon, as they're different mediums.
