I think it's stupid when people try to claim that something they don't like doesn't count as fanfiction. If it's based on an existing work, it's fanfiction.

Controversial more than unpopular

Pearl from Steven Universe is my favorite character to watch in action, but I don't like her as a person. Matt Burnett, one of the writers, has said this is missing the point of the show. I think he's being silly. It's the writer's job to create the characters and show how they function, but it's up to viewers to evaluate them, and disliking a character is a natural part of that.

Korrasami was just a last ditch effort to get asspats for a series that didn't live up to the hype and accolades the original one did. The laughably false, "I was always a Korrasami shipper!" from Brian and the throwing half the fandom under the buss for tumblr spooge was incredibly cringe worthy.

I think it's fine to dismiss the canonicity of "canon" couples if they aren't written convincingly.

Even if the writer says they're a couple, or they're married and say "I love you" but then the book/movie/show consistently shows them not giving a shit about each other, I don't consider it canon.

Canon is only what's actually in the book/movie/series/game. What creators say isn't automatically canon. Especially if they say it years and years after the original thing was released.

I don't mind revealing clothing on female characters, so long as their personalities and characterization are well done and/or compelling.

I'm okay with objectification in any context in fiction. I just wished people realized that the author probably knows it's alienating some of their audience and a work shouldn't be morally required to have equal amounts of objectification for both genders.

I don't think this opinion is remotely unpopular or controversial here, but I want to rant about it so whatever.

You can't decide a character is canonically autistic based on how they act. Just because you're autistic and have behaviors in common with a character doesn't prove that character is autistic. It is impossible for writers to unintentionally create an autistic character when they were just trying to create a character who's "weird," because characters aren't real people with brains that develop organically; they act the way they do for no reason other than the reason their creators say they do. So shut uuuupppp about fans being ableist for calling weird and creepy characters weird and creepy. That's what they're supposed to be.

Regarding Steven Universe:

I don't like Connie. I think Steven's friendship with her is cute but her personality is irritating to me. She reminds me way too much of people I know.

I don't ship Amethyst with either Pearl or Garnet (Pearl moreso) because I think of her dynamic with them as more of a younger sister trying to impress her older siblings and show them she's just as capable as they are. Her dynamic with Steven is the same way; while the other two are more motherly and protective, Amethyst is the cool big sis that likes having fun and goofing around, letting Steven do what he wants and only stepping in when she knows it's dangerous.

The sexist stereotype that fangirls only care about cute boys and feelings and will reduce all forms of narrative down to just those things, no matter how hard they have to hammer it in there, or how many pieces they have to chop off and throw away to get it to fit in their creepy little kissing mold, is not totally inaccurate. Sometimes I understand why fanboys are afraid of us getting into things they like.

I automatically think less of people who apply "[x] is autistic!" or "[y] is trans!" headcanons on every character they touch because 9 times out of 10, it comes across as stereotypical in a really unpleasant way.

Doubly so because most of these people tend to say 'so and so is trans and that's canon' or whatever and then say 'and you're a transphobic piece of shit if you don't agree'.

I mean whatever, think what you like, but it probably isn't canon and you're a piece of shit yourself for insisting so like that.
