Don't really like:

Prostitution (as an angst plot device or an AU)
Arranged marriages or Royalty AU
Pretend dating becoming real dating
Abusive family (as an angst plot device if the family is not abusive in canon)

I just can't get into a/b/o either.

I hate when canon emotional abuse and neglect get turned into physical abuse in fic because apparently it just wasn't angsty enough the original way.

I feel this. And it never fails to (if unintentionally on the author's part) read to me as, "It's not real abuse until it gets physical."

As someone who has been physically abused, I agree. This irritates me on two accounts. The first being that emotional abuse is undermined because, as anon above me pointed out, it's "not real abuse unless it's physical." The second being that I can almost always tell that the author is using physical abuse as a cheap angst plot device. And boy does that grind my gears.

Oh god yes on abusive families. I don't see it often, but back when I was into Teen Wolf and on the occasion I would run into abusive Sheriff Stilinski it always pissed me off.

...I will admit to liking arranged marriage and royalty AU fic though. I have a weakness; I'll read it in most fandoms.

Or a combined royalty AU fic which includes arranged marriage! The two work well together seeing as how that's how lots of royal marriages historically happened.

Yes! Both are fun on their own, but together...what a perfect combination. (If done correctly of course, but in just about every fandom I've found at least one that I genuinely loved. There's one in Kingsman right now that I adore and wish would update faster; I can't get enough of those AU's.)

I agree on prostitution and abusive families as angst plot devices and AUs - it's just weird to me to introduce something so heavy if it doesn't exist or tonally fit with the source material. And it also just doesn't appeal to me as a dynamic.

Disagree on the arranged marriages and pretend dating stuff, though. Give me all of the f/f arranged marriage fic. I will read it for days and days and never stop.

Familial abuse being used as a plot device when the family wasn't abusive in canon is so irritating. I'm leery of prostitution as well because so many fanfics dissolve into bad stereotypes of sex workers.

I'm not fond of fake dating either, though it's really popular in my current fandoms. I don't hate it, but I don't really get the appeal? Whatever floats someone else's boat though.
