Fic tropes you hate

This thread has been done before, so lets see some of the rarer and more specific ones this time around!

One that makes me roll my eyes hard enough to make them fall out is when two characters who are close friends have a one-sight stand, and one character remains all hung up and emotionally stunted and miserably trapped in unrequited love and obsessed about that one-night-stand for YEARS while still staying close friends with the other person and yet never discussing it with them.

A couple years at the most, and if, like, they're two guys/two girls in a very homophobic society, with internalized homophobia too? Okay, maybe then. But other than that, it just makes them so pathetic and immature to me.

Werewolves hold no appeal to me -- too close to bestiality IMO.

Are werewolf AUs a trope? Anyway, I dislike them.

OMG yes. It was fine for a few fics, maybe some had interesting ideas. Now it's just annoying. Especially when the rest of the summary is appealing, but somehow they have to throw it in there.

Yeah, I only like misunderstanding fanfics when there's a good reason they can't just talk -- like if someone doesn't even understand his own motivations and therefore can't explain why s/he did a shitty thing, or they need to keep something secret for an important reason.

My most hated of these is: A sees their love interest B being friendly and affectionate towards an attractive person. THEY MUST BE DATING! Cue A seething/angsting/being super jealous because they jump to conclusions and only finds out way later that B is not with the attractive person because it turns out they're siblings/just friends/different orientations! But not before they spent all that time being miserable. I hate that type of misunderstanding.

I hate it when random fucking characters from different shows just pop up in the middle of a fanfic. Why? Whyy???

This is very broad, but I hate it when a fanfic writer writes one chapter from one character's POV, and the next chapter is the exact same events, but from a different character's POV.

That bugs the hell out of me too, if the overlap is large. If there's a huge (and important) disconnect or difference between the two perspectives that reveals some crucial point about the plot or the characters, then it can be very interesting, but if the difference just amounts to a few differences in how they observe things/each other, it's so tedious.

Don't really like:

Prostitution (as an angst plot device or an AU)
Arranged marriages or Royalty AU
Pretend dating becoming real dating
Abusive family (as an angst plot device if the family is not abusive in canon)

I just can't get into a/b/o either.

I hate when canon emotional abuse and neglect get turned into physical abuse in fic because apparently it just wasn't angsty enough the original way.

This is ridiculously broad, but AUs that aren't deviations from canon. So all the coffeeshop AUs, high school AUs, Regency AUs,...I admit to a fondness for Hogwarts AUs and even the others are OK *occasionally* but some fandoms seem to have more of these AUs than fics that play with the canon.

Infidelity. Especially if it's "romantic" because they're cheating on an asshole (OC) with the person they think is their true love.

Any variation of "I saved you from an abusive relationship with my dick".

A/B/O or any sort of trope where gender roles are placed onto dominant/submissive characters and those things are traits at birth. Ugh. No.

Character A pines after Character B for chapters and chapters of angst. A distances themselves from B by ignoring them, being rude or cold, whatever. Yet B is presented as the awful one for being oblivious to A's feelings or what have you. And when they get hurt and react in an upset manner, it's not emphasized as much compared to how terrible A feels.

B is not a mind reader goddamnit. Even if A's my favorite in a fandom, treating B so terribly makes me think they're an asshole and unsympathetic as hell. This trope is the fastest way to make me NOT ship A/B.

Angsty love triangles where the apparent main pairing is the nicer pairing, but one of the pair realizes they have feelings for another character who is a total asshole and it is strongly implied they don't really love the person they're in a relationship with.

This gets really annoying when Main Character/Asshole was an OTP of mine.

I also hate humiliation and torture.

99% of the AU fic situations I see. I've tried a few, but have disliked: coffee shop, college, high school, etc. AUs. It just feels sooooo OOC.
