Maybe? But they seem genuinely offended when anyone suggests they aren't who they say they are (and I'm not really clear on what fictionkin even means, it seems to be thinking you are some sort of real life embodiment of the character's personality without having actually done the things they did in the thing they were written in?).

There is this other journal they interact with, and that person seems to think they are Sauron, though not quite as strongly. I originally followed them because I thought they were an RP blog and that fandom has some pretty awesome RP on tumblr. Only in this case not.

...I have to admit, I was not aware that Tolkien fandom got this hardcore. Sure they can be elitist, but fictionkin...that's not something I expected. (Or would expect in any fandom, but...it sounds like there's a whole group in Tolkien fandom?)

Those are the only two I've run across. My experience in the fandom has mostly been positive. Yes, people do get intense about it, but mostly in the "I want to know every detail" sort of way that fits with Tolkien's writing or in a really cracky just having fun with it kind of way (often both at the same time).

Ah, okay. I thought maybe there was a darker section of Tolkien fandom that I had missed out on.

My experiences with Tolkien fandom have been overwhelmingly positive, but I haven't been in the fandom recently so I'm sure things have changed. I always liked how passionate and knowledgeable Tolkien fandom could be though. I don't think I've been in a fandom like it since.

Yes, basically. And the fans I've met are really nice (except this one elitist douche on Facebook). And the fandom is fairly active. I'm pretty much exclusively in the Tolkien fandom on Tumblr, and the people I follow on there are amazing.

Sounds similar to a fandom I'm in, except in this case the fictionkin also RP the character they identify as. They insist they're not playing their fictionself but still demand that you don't follow/roleplay with the RP blog if you don't believe in fictionkin.
