I'd have to see the complaint to know how to react to this. An entitled attitude that says you should be writing that pairing because it's obviously better, or maybe some disappointment that a writer they like isn't writing their favorite pairing because they want more to read and they know this writer would do it well, or lots of other nuances that may be possible.

Yeah, there's a huge difference between "wow it sucks that author doesn't write A/B", "author sucks for not writing A/B", and "I kind of wish author would also write some A/B".

It may have been a little of the first and third one, but she made me feel like the second.

A bit more info might help. This particular ship involves one character who is very, very underage, and another who is a grown adult. She knew this very well. She remarked another time that she thought I was "wrong" not to see romance between them. Granted she later admitted she could see how the ship could be platonic, but it still rubbed me the wrong way. I wanted to tell her I was not comfortable writing that pairing without feeling like I was writing an episode of Law&Order SVU, but she had no idea I was reading her blog and I didn't want to look weird.

Like I said, it's her blog and she can say whatever the she wants. I don't have to read it. But what really got me was the fact that she apparently had a writing ability of her own and yet never tried her hand to make up for the lack of fics of her preferred ship. Sorry, but I'm not going to do it for her. :\

Yes, it does feel like a "douchey" thing to do, but that's why it's a secret.

Huh well. I guess in that case I can kind of see why you would do that, though it is kind of petty :P still, not *that* bad.

But you don't actually have to write fics that you don't want to write, regardless of the reason.

No one can control how you take things but you. If you say "it was more like 1 and 3 but made me feel like 2" that's on you.

At first I was thinking 'well, if you're the only person writing for this fandom, and she didn't leave the comment ON the fic, I can see why she would say elsewhere that she wished you wrote her favorite ship, because where else would she find it, but... eesh, yeah, half-underage pairing with a sizable age gap? I mean, I can see shipping, like, a seventeen year old with a twenty year old or whatever, but a child and a grown-ass adult, I'd feel pretty dang uncomfortable writing anything like that.

I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to upset the reader (or include canon/OC romances), but I definitely understand only shipping those characters with other characters. Characters within their own age brackets. Yeah.

Just on the "write her own fics" part, sometimes people who have some writing ability just don't have the drive, motivation, confidence, or ability to create plots for writing fic. I feel I am one of those sort of people and the "If you want it, why don't you write it yourself?" attitude is not helpful because I know I won't be able to write it.

This however is not saying the rest of that person's attitude was not stupid entitlement and insensitive to your feelings about the pairing they want.

I find it a little weird that she would name you specifically, knowing it is public and that you would have access to it. But, maybe she's just so involved in her ship that she really wishes more people would write about it, especially her favorite fic authors? Idk.

Underage pairings are a very specific thing to be into, and it's not cool to complain if someone else isn't into that, and especially because a writer didn't include that cherished underage pairing in their fic.

I had the feeling that there'd be some detail that explained this. It's not really the pairing in this case, it's the fact that it's an underage pairing.

That's more like complaining the writer didn't include your favorite creepy obscure kink in a fic because everyone has that kink, right? And if they don't, there's something wrong with them because the chemistry is obvious (going by what OP said above).

If it was the first and third one, then you're a real asshole. Jesus.

Yeah, who cares about the ship involving a very underage character with an adult? It's so mean of her to never write them together!
