This is the first time I've read a secret and said aloud, "Wow, what an incredibly douchey thing to do!"

(I know you realize this, which is why it's a secret, but geez, Y R U SO MEAN?)

(Anonymous) 2015-08-15 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
No writer is obligated to write for a particular ship just because people think they should. How is it douchey?

Seems fair to me. You write whoever you want to write about, it's ridiculous that people would complain you're not writing their favorite pairing.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-15 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
But they're not saying this on the fic, they're saying it in their own blog.

It's sounding like a double standard: the author-anon can write whatever stories they want, but the commentor isn't allowed to express opinions in their own blog without being considered unreasonable? Um, no?

I'd do the same thing but I know I'm petty.

I'd have to see the complaint to know how to react to this. An entitled attitude that says you should be writing that pairing because it's obviously better, or maybe some disappointment that a writer they like isn't writing their favorite pairing because they want more to read and they know this writer would do it well, or lots of other nuances that may be possible.

Yeah, there's a huge difference between "wow it sucks that author doesn't write A/B", "author sucks for not writing A/B", and "I kind of wish author would also write some A/B".

I laughed, OP. Good job.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-15 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know. On the one hand I am all about writing what makes you and only you happy because I myself can't work creatively otherwise. On the other hand, when you've reached the point where you're specifically expending effort to make someone else unhappy, I don't think you're even writing for yourself anymore. I can't imagine those revenge fics you wrote were any good either. All this negative energy could have been avoided and channeled into better stories.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-15 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Well aren't you a petty bitch. You do realize it's possible to like something, say nice, sincere things about it and still wish in a personal space it had something else, right? I mean, RIGHT?

But I guess acknowledging that would mean you wouldnt be able to show off your ability to give nonverbal "fuck you"s.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-15 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
You do realize that the ship that the complainer wanted OP to write had one half being underage. And they said they didn't feel right writing it to begin with?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-16 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've done this too. You want me to write A/B instead of B/C? Well, fuck you, I'm writing 100 more B/C fics. Though I wasn't the only writer in the fandom so it probably wasn't particularly effective...

(Anonymous) 2015-08-16 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, all the "you're so MEAN ;.;" stuff in this thread is kinda ridiculous. OP is simply not writing a pairing. Is their reasoning spiteful and petty? Kinda

But from the details they gave it sounds like this was a pairing they weren't going to write ANYWAY.

All the talk of "well they're doing it to hurt/upset someone"? I could take it more seriously if they were doing something more than simply not writing a pairing they didn't seem to like or feel comfortable writing in the first place.

The complainer sounds kind of unreasonable to be complaining about how OP is wrong to not see the ship*. If someone doesn't like a ship they don't like a ship.

*If you're wondering where I got that, see OP's explanation/details.

ILU, OP!

(Anonymous) 2015-08-16 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
nah i'm with you op.

i'm always on the side of fandom where a bunch of lil shits like to tell me i'm not shipping the right thing

(I really want to know what the fandom/pairing is, but I can see why that part's a secret, if the OP's the only writer)

I'm confused, they didn't actually demand you to write their OTP? They expressed disappointment on their own blog?

By all means write whatever you want, but I'm not seeing the issue here. They liked your writing, on their blog they wished you would write their OTP but didn't actually go up and demand it of you?

Chill.

First off, I think people underestimate how public a personal blog is. I have heard it said that anything you put online is becomes public information and if you don't even put it under some privacy filter (I don't even know if Tumblr has those) then anyone can wander by and see what you've said.

Second, I find the idea of someone specifically pointing out a particular writer when complaining about people writing pairings they don't like (or not writing ones they do like) to be a bit questionable. It comes across as "This person is bad because they like what I don't like".

Third, the part that gets me is that your reviewer was very two-faced in their attitude. I don't blame you for feeling a bit sour when you found out how false their nice review was.

Fourth, are you still writing pairings you like? If so, keep on avoiding her skeevy questionable pairing (yes I saw the mention of it being underage).

I understand why you posted this here though, if you ever admitted you deliberately avoid her pairing to annoy her, the criticism you would get would be a whole lot worse than anything in this comment thread. I would advise not letting that be known un-anon.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-16 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I understand. I spite-write things all the time myself (usually tropes and bottom!character, but it's similar.)

(Anonymous) 2015-08-16 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
OP, I think you missed the point.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-16 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Very mature of you, I hope you're proud of yourself.

But it's okay to dream, isn't it?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-17 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
What context is the "complaining" though?

I've read some fics I've loved, and in my own blog/Tumblr/whatever, mourned that a writer isn't doing my OTP. It's not out of contempt for that writer, just wishful thinking, two brilliant things coming together (Like: I wish Del Toro did Transformers).

If I'd really harrassed them for the pairing fic it would be a different. But yeah, kinda douchey, the response.
