Seems fair to me. You write whoever you want to write about, it's ridiculous that people would complain you're not writing their favorite pairing.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-15 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
But they're not saying this on the fic, they're saying it in their own blog.

It's sounding like a double standard: the author-anon can write whatever stories they want, but the commentor isn't allowed to express opinions in their own blog without being considered unreasonable? Um, no?

To be honest it is kind of unreasonable to complain because someone else didn't write your favorite ship. It's understandable to be disappointed but to go on your blog and be like "wah why can't so and so write MY OTP?" is kinda childish. It's ridiculous to expect someone to write your ship because "it's better"

Now I will admit that the OP's motive of seeing this and avoiding it out of spite is..kinda petty. But at the end of the day OP can write any ship they want, and honestly it's not like they're doing something wrong by not writing the person's ship. It's not like they're doing rude things like posting hate in the ship's tag. They're just...not writing it. And really? That's not a big deal or hurting anyone.

I actually would not hold it against someone throwing a "wah why can't so and so write MY OTP?" tantrum on their own blog, because it's their own blog, and frankly I have done similar (I have bitched on my dA journal about disliking Kili/Tauriel and Solas). Just realise posting rants like that anywhere means it's out in the public eye, even if it's under a filter so only certain people can see it.

The part that I find questionable is complaining about a specific writer writing something they don't like, especially after leaving a positive review. It makes the review look fake, and the reviewer ignorant of just how public their posts really are.

Except that nobody said the reader was unreasonable for having their own opinion, so your strawman does not apply here. It's reasonable to have ship preferences. It's not really reasonable to complain that an author is doing something remiss by not writing your OTP.

They said that the reader was "ridiculous" which to me = unreasonable.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-15 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Where? It's not in the secret, and the only time the word "ridiculous" comes up in this entire thread is in the context of people saying things like:

it's ridiculous that people would complain you're not writing their favorite pairing

and

It's ridiculous to expect someone to write your ship because "it's better"

Neither of which is what you claimed, i.e. that it's ridiculous (or unreasonable) to have an opinion about a pairing.

AYRT

well, you claim that "nobody said the reader was unreasonable for having their own opinion"

yet that is how I interpreted the comment

I think you're imposing your own meaning on what's written. That comment specifically says: "it's ridiculous that people would complain you're not writing their favorite pairing" (emphasis mine).

If someone is actually complaining that an author isn't writing their OTP, that's not the same thing feeling like you wished they would.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-15 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
The complainer is criticizing the writer for who they pair, which seems kinda douchey to me.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-15 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I wish this fic had x" is not "writer is awful for not writing x!!"

(Anonymous) 2015-08-16 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
This is true, but you have no way of knowing which situation the OP had to deal with.
