As the kind of person you're complaining about OP, I'll tell you exactly what I expected from a cheesy MTV remake of a cheesy 1980s movie: Cheese.

The show had PLENTY of that in season one and while you think the plotting was thin in seasons one & two, at least there was plotting. I liked that season two ramped things up (I started watching season one while season 2 was airing and became obsessed.) I liked that it took on a darker tone and I thought the stuff with the Kanima was interesting.

But, ultimately what I loved about the show was the characters, and yes, obviously several of the actors chose to move onto better things, which is absolutely their right. That said, I don't think killing them all off was necessary (killing Allison off was a terrible decision when her canon backstory/introduction asserts that she's never lived in one place more than a year. There were so many ways to write Crystal off the show that didn't involve killing Allison.) And that's why I think the direction the later seasons have taken is terrible: It became too grimdark too fast, they tried to introduce way too many new characters at the expense of development and growth for the existing characters we already knew and loved, and these new characters I didn't care about were driving the plot. So yeah, I'm going to bitch about how much worse the show became because the show bought into its own hype and Jeff Davis makes no real effort to flesh out his universe. The timeline doesn't make sense or add up and when called on it, Jeff gives shitty responses that indicate he doesn't know his own characters the way a writer should.

Realizing that he didn't have a real plan or direction and that characters I loved were suffering for it while new characters nobody cared about or asked for took the spotlight drove me away from a campy, cheesy, 1980s movie remake MTV show that I really loved and cared about and I'm not going to apologize for that. Mostly, I miss lacrosse. I miss seeing Scott juggle school & sports & social life with lycanthropy. By the end of 3A, I found that I had really missed the balance between the supernatural and the mundane.

Also, from what I've read, more than just not caring enough about his characters, Jeff treats the actors pretty poorly, so I'm not surprised that so many of them have jumped at the chance to leave. I am surprised that it's a mistake he seemingly hasn't learned from, not trying to contract more of them for longer periods of time.

All of this said: Please, by all means, if you still love the show and you want to keep enjoying it and loving, that is your prerogative and I support you fully in that endeavor. But don't make assumptions about my reasons for hating what the show has become. That's rude.
