Re: So creepy men have driven a teenager to dangerous unnecessary surgery

I actually read her interview, and that's not why she had a breast reduction. I suggest you read it, too:

http://edition.cnn.com/2015/08/14/entertainment/ariel-winter-breast-reduction-feat/
(WARNING: seems to have some kind of audio)

As someone who's had a breast reduction, I fully understand and support her decision.

Creepy men are just a (small) part why some women elect to have a breast reduction. And fyi, breast reductions are not "dangerous" nor are they "unnecessary". Breast reductions pose a minimal threat to one's health and no doctor worth their salt will ever even consider doing a reduction without a good reason relating to either the patient's health/physical well-being or the patient wants to remove/reduce their breasts because they're trans (and even then you need a psychiatrist's assessment).

Do your research before you start any unnecessary wank, please.

Wow. She 'explains' her surgery. Jayzus. She shouldn't *have* to 'explain' anything. Sometimes, i just hate the world.

She chose to explain her surgery because she wanted to bring awareness. She was actually quiet about the whole thing for a while, and I believe she could've remained silent if she wanted to.

So, good for her, I think.

Just the headline, maybe - 'explain', like 'give us a good reason for making your bewbies smaller!!'

Just rubbed me the wrong way.

That...isn't what explain means. She's detailing her thought process leading up to the surgery to raise awareness of her situation. It's an explanation.

If the headline has said something like "justify", it'd be one thing, but given the wording actually used in the headline, any bad faith is pure inference on your part.

Wow. What god do you pray you to that kept her from biting your head off? Because I mad a similar one and the shit hit the fan.

Eh

I mean, celebrity culture is generally insane, but this doesn't seem like THAT much of a terrible example of it

This sounds like it's just your issue with a word. It's a valid word to use, and your baggage with it shouldn't be a reason not to.

Oh for fuck's sake. Get a grip, i don't have 'baggage' and i'm not having a tantrum, the word just bugged me. Christ on a cracker.

Calm the fuck down, Jesus. If you have an issue with a word, it's your baggage. I guess you have baggage with that word too. And I didn't think you were throwing a tantrum, but I sure as shit do now.

Don't you have kids? What a wonderful example of hostility you must be.

...wtf just happened.

I agree with you. I felt similarly when everyone lost their shit about Angelina Jolie. Which was a more drastic procedure, but still, it's their damn boobs, they (as in Jolie and Ariel Winter) can do what they want, they don't have to explain it to anyone.

Re: So creepy men have driven a teenager to dangerous unnecessary surgery

(Anonymous) 2015-08-16 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
No, but if they choose to explain it, there's nothing wrong with the outlet calling it what it is. I mean, I get being irked if it'd said she was defending her choice, but explain...is just what she did.

Yup, exactly.

ia with you in how distasteful that article feels. It's like clickbait to talk about a 17-year-old's breasts and her medical choices thereof. If she wants to speak out her experiences, that's awesome. But I also get the sense that it's something people would be talking about it even if she hadn't said anything. Like, if the article was actually interested in the medical situation, focus the article on that, and other examples, instead of making it so personally about her situation.

Exactly. I'm baffled by people in comments who don't get why the headline rubbed me the wrong way. It's just...i dunno. Icky. Especially because they chose this cheesecake picture of her, instead of just a nice head shot.

Bah, whatever. Good on her, she seems to be happy about it, so that's what matters.

Re: So creepy men have driven a teenager to dangerous unnecessary surgery

(Anonymous) 2015-08-17 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
People don't get why the headline rubbed you the wrong way, because there's no intrinsic reason it should. And we've GIVEN REASONS WHY. Stop playing the innocent and admit that you're just raring for a fight. Or keep telling people to fuck off and calling things "icky" like some sort of child.

Re: So creepy men have driven a teenager to dangerous unnecessary surgery

(Anonymous) 2015-08-17 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
DA

CNN is known for clickbait, and an article focusing on a 17-year-old's breasts is ALWAYS going to rub some people the wrong way... as it should. ffs.

Re: So creepy men have driven a teenager to dangerous unnecessary surgery

(Anonymous) 2015-08-17 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
But she's not saying an article about a teenager's breasts rubbed her the wrong way. She's saying the word "explain" is "icky" and rubs her the wrong way. And that's no fault of the article. Because whatever anyone thinks of Ariel Winter going public with her decision, explaining it ... is what she's doing.

Tabaqi is just making weird-ass inferences and being bitxh to anyone who challenges them.
