I burnt my bacon. It wasn't just deliciously crunchy, but black charcoal. :(

I've given up on cooking bacon because it burns every time.

I used to cook it all the time for my work, and it never came out poorly, so the fact that I messed up so poorly for myself is bugging me, lol. |D

I've been told that the trick is to keep the heat low and cook it a long time rather than higher heat and shorter time, but I've never managed.

That's why I buy the ready - to - nuke bacon. Just pop it in the microwave for minute or two and viola! Nice and crispy bacon that's not blackened.

Same as for grilled cheese, but I've never been good at that either, lol. And I don't have a microwave, or else I'd follow the Anon's recommendation.

TBH I think there are only two real tricks here:

One, keep an eye on it the whole time it's frying.

Two, pull it off and let it rest once it's bubbling all over.

I honestly am not sure what else you could even do to avoid burning it.

Yeah. I didn't want to nitpick anyone, but... it really is not that hard. If you're burning bacon, either you have the heat too high or you're walking away and leaving it too long. Maybe both. Bacon isn't some finicky thing that burns at the drop of a hat.

I've taken to broiling bacon rather than frying in a skillet, it's about the same amount of time, but the distance away from the heating element makes a difference and allows some wiggle room between not done and burnt beyond edible. It's virtually burn-proof when baking versus direct heat, but it'll take a lot longer, about 20 mins. (and it'll burn if you basically forget about it).

I did this with some turkey bacon in the oven. The other half was perfect though.

I always make bacon using the microwave. Put it between two sheets of paper towels on a plate and mirowave it until it's crisp. The paper gets a lot of the fat, too. I just have to check a few times if it's done and make sure it doesn't stick to the paper (just lift and turn it with a fork if it starts sticking).
