Re: Looking for medical Advice: TMI
(Anonymous) 2015-08-17 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)Well, it seems that this is no longer the case. Today I had cramps so bad that I was curled up on my bed in agony after taking 800mg Ibuprofen and then a Vicodin. Right now it has died down a little bit to the point that I can move around a bit, but that is still after another 800 mg and another Vicodin.
Also, I've realized that one reason I haven't been interested in having sex is that I have constant pain when anything touches me there, even myself. And I don't think that is normal.
Some quick research has made me think I might have endometriosis rather than cysts. They never did any actual testing, they just thought it was probably cysts. And since the pill worked mostly for the pain, I never questioned. But my symptoms now fit endometriosis better, I think.
The problem is, I'm currently out of work and therefore don't have insurance (my school insurance lapsed a week ago and I haven't found a job yet). So I can't go see a gynocolgist.
And even when I do, I'm terrified. The last time I had bad pain they thought it might be cyst and forced a vaginal ultrasound on me. I couldn't do it even with a muscle relaxant and morphine. And it caused so much pain that I now get completely freaked out and can't even get a pap smear done.
So I'm scared to go to the doctor, can't afford it right now anyway, but I know something needs to be done. So does anyone have any suggestions? Or things I can do to lessen the pain until I can go see a doctor?

Re: Looking for medical Advice: TMI
It is an incredibly shitty situation, and the US health care system is awful, but there isn't anything to be done.
Re: Looking for medical Advice: TMI
(Anonymous) 2015-08-17 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)The internet is not a doctor. Until you go to one, you won't know if you'll need to be tested for endometriosis. If you do need a test WebMD says it happens when the patient is unconscious and involves a small incision in the abdomen, so nothing like the test before. But it might be something else, maybe they'll alter your medication or want bloodwork.
But it's worth going, even if right now you don't have insurance. When it comes to medical issues you can't get to them quickly enough. This might start interfering with your job(hunt) or it might simply get worse and therefore more expensive.
If you're scared/nervous when you're with the doctor, for anything: tell them. It's completely normal and they'll be able to respond better.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-17 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)Re: Looking for medical Advice: TMI
I'm in the same boat. I've been taken to the emergency room before because I couldn't even speak to tell my family it was just a fucking period and I didn't want to go because they can't do anything for me. I can't be on hormonal birth control, unfortunately.
Get the painkillers down as soon as you feel it coming on and invest in some good heat packs. I use the long kind that are meant to drape around the neck I guess? One for across my lower back because those cramps set off nerve pain in my legs, and one for across the birthplace of satan. I'm on day 3 at the moment. D:<
People will tell you to get up and move around to relieve cramps, but I've never found it helpful. Moving just makes me bleed heavily.
I'll probably have to go have the surgical exploration done eventually but I'm too done to do it right now. If I bother with that I'm having the whole shop closed up for good, if you know what I mean. Good riddance.
Re: Looking for medical Advice: TMI
(Anonymous) 2015-08-18 12:50 am (UTC)(link)I hate taking this much pain killers. Can't be good for my stomach. But it is either that or more pain than I can handle. At least the cramps only usually last for 2-3 days for me. So if I can just make it through the next couple of days, I'll be okay.
Re: Looking for medical Advice: TMI
I get it all the way up near my ribs, too, and shooting pains through my pelvis. It's just a bad fucking time and it's not "normal" no matter how many people think I'm whining because "it's just a period" and "everyone gets them". Ughhhh.
That's the spirit! I'm always like "yeah just a couple more days. I got this." but then the next one rolls around and I hate my life again.
