Re: Most hated fanfics

Read a fic recently that bashed my favorite character. The author made them wildly OOC and took a crush they may have had and some actions they may have taken (only shows up in one version of canon) and blew them way out of proportion in order to have an angsty fic all about their favorite ship. Said ship is canon, so it isn't like this character needed to be pushed out of the way.

God I hate this, especially if the bashed character is a friend and/or isn't romantically interested in the other characters.

In this case the bashed character is a cousin of the one character who in one version of canon had a crush on her. She's happily married and they remained friends (until later when she left for another reason, but they were still close enough for him to go to her when he realized he had screwed up and entrust her with one of his most valuable possessions).

It was pretty clear that this author just hated him and wanted an excuse to bash him.
