Oh good now I'm remembering all the awkward laughing, thanks OP.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-18 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean the laughing at the point where it was supposed to be forced and awkward?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-18 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
...is someone defending the FFX laugh scene? Wow. lol

People don't know this?

I'm starting to think they don't. It's been about fourteen years and the youngest chunk of current fandom was probably age five to non-existent.

I personally consider every major console FF as the launch title for a new generation of fans, so XIII meant X was already ancient.

Well if it was supposed to be awkward... no I still don't like it but at least there's a reason for it?

I still don't think it sounded the way actual forced, awkward laughter sounds in real life. If that was what they were going for then I'd still say they failed.

It's pretty bad when you have trouble forcing forced laughter.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-19 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
It takes a really good actor to act convincingly like a bad actor. This probably falls under the same principle.

That's a good, and rather ironic, point.

I never understood why people didn't get that. The laugh scene was supposed to be bad/awkward/cringeworthy, even in context you have the other characters going WTF at the scene and Tidus and Yuna talk about how stupid it was. It was even WORSE in the Japanese version believe it or not. There are far more awkward scenes and lines to use as an example, but the voice acting overall wasnt THAT horrible given it was one of the firsts in JRPGS.

When I think bad voice acting in video games, I think of this:

That one's classic. I'll also throw out this bad video game voice acting compilation, complete with dramatic lip syncing:

It bothers me how many people don't seem to understand how it was supposed to be bad. I don't care if people still think it sucks, but context is a thing. I remember someone once linking to the Japanese version of the scene to be all "look how much better Japanese voices are!!!" and It's just.........mind boggling.
