My thought process is that most of the dudes who post here are, one way or another, pretty deeply uncomfortable with what you might call hegemonic masculinity

And so there's a certain... I'm not sure the word - comfort? freedom? relief? - in being detached from those structures

I wasn't commenting on their reasons, only that it probably happens more than people think where the person they're assuming is female, isn't

I disagree. Hegemonic masculinity is the lifeblood of the male ego. They could no more give that up than they could give up their own phalluses.
